The Blue Room
Installation and exhibition
National Socialism / 1933 -1945

The original burlap mail sacks shown in this installation were mainly used for official business ordinary letters, periodicals, magazines and corres- pondence in the years of the National Socialism. The letters and photographs speak of the day-to-day life and concerns of ordinary German people in these times. Life goes on as usual
Some of the sacks are dated; all have the official stamp, and were later used at various times to store grains which were given as a incentive or payment to those considered most deserving. They become darker and more twisted in time.
These mail sacks havbe been made rigid with transparent plastic; other resins were used resembling blood and human excrement. They have been laminated with copies and documents of the Holocaust. The jacket is the original jacket once proudly worn by a soldier in Rommel´s army. I have made it stiff with plastic resins and scretched into the hard surface with sharp instruments; signed and purified, laminated it with various articles that speak of a culture and a philosophy.
"The Blue Room" is painted with the color ultramarine blue, it can act upon the emotion with all the more force. It demands from the viewer a more profound emotion, which touches the spirit as well as the sense.
